Daylight beats a lamp
I paint by the window or at the kitchen table in the afternoon. The small numbers are so much easier to read.
I never thought of myself as someone who paints. I was at uni, and my weekends looked like everyone's: the same group of friends, the same sofa, the same shows we had already seen twice.
Then it got cold. Nobody wanted to go out anymore and the nights in started to feel a bit flat. A friend mentioned paint by numbers, half as a joke. I ordered a set of minis to try it out, mostly because one set meant a canvas for each of us.
That first evening was not what I expected. We poured drinks, put out some food, picked a canvas each, and then it went quiet for twenty minutes. Nobody touched a phone. After that it was talking, swapping colors and laughing at each other's brushwork until way past midnight.
We have had a sip and paint night almost every weekend since. Someone cooks, someone brings a bottle, everyone brings a canvas, and we talk about everything while we paint. It is the most relaxed I feel all week.
If you are not sure, just try one set. I have not seen anyone at our table regret it, and I have not seen anyone not have fun.

Our weekends now
"One set of six minis, a bottle of something, good food, and a table nobody wants to leave. We pick a canvas each, catch up on the whole week and paint until the candles are done."
"Someone is always fast, someone never finishes, and the phones stay in the bags."
Her tips
Nothing fancy. Just the habits that make every kit easier.

I close each pot before opening the next. My paint stays good for weeks that way.

A drop of water in the paint and a second pass. The numbers disappear completely.

Mine arrive stretched on wood and go on the wall the same evening. No frame shop.

I thoroughly enjoyed doing this. I'm in my fifties and haven't painted since I was at school. This was really relaxing and I lost myself in doing it.

So easy and it came out beautiful. My friends and family cannot believe it is paint by number. LOL, I almost lied and told them I painted it free hand it is that realistic!

Really enjoyed painting this lady! It was a nice way to take a break from screens in the evening.
